Specify the intended activity in a sportswear brief. The type of exercise, time worn and use with other layers affect how a sample should be assessed. Appearance is only one part of that discussion.
Plan the fitting
Try the sample through the intended movements. Record feedback on sleeves, shoulders, waist and pockets. Where a material needs special performance properties, agree on criteria and appropriate tests rather than using broad marketing language. Make the confirmation method clear for each requirement.
Bring photographs, measurements and trial notes together before approving the garment. The final decision can then reflect more than a first visual impression.
