The hoodie: balancing volume and comfort
Oversized does not simply mean increasing every measurement.
A hoodie’s silhouette comes from its shoulders, sleeves, body and hood working together. Wanting a looser garment does not mean enlarging each part by the same amount. Explain the intended appearance and use before developing the sample.
Judge the volume on a sample
Look at the front, back and sides. Try the hood up and down, and compare the cuffs with the main fabric. Discuss how pocket placement affects the silhouette. Avoid automatically applying the result in one size to the whole size range.
Describe the approved volume with measurements and photographs. A physical reference makes a phrase like “relaxed but neat” much more useful to the manufacturer.
