Assess fabric weight alongside the sample
The number matters, but it does not describe the whole material.
Fabric weight is often central to a buying discussion. It is more useful when considered with composition, structure and finishing. A material that works for one garment may not automatically suit another silhouette or season.
Compare it in the same application
Look at samples both on the table and in the shape of the intended panel. Discuss a small sleeve or body trial where helpful. Compare folds, shape and appearance under the same light. Record why you chose the material: silhouette, feel or another property.
Identify the approved fabric precisely in the brief. Instead of “heavier” or “lighter” alone, refer to the sample and its agreed specification.
